Northrop Grumman/EADS KC-45A Selected As New Tanker

Finally the Air Force has selected a replacement for the ancient KC-135. On Friday they announced that that the KC-45A will be the new tanker and that this is the Air Forces number one funding priority. This is a multi-year contract to produce 179 new tankers in 5 production lots. The KC-45 is a derivative of the Airbus A-330 powered by GE CF6-80E turbofans and is been selected by the RAF, Australian Air Force and Royal Saudi Air Force as their tanker. Its larger size will allow more fuel off load and larger cargo capacity than the competing Boeing KC-30, 767 tankers.
