For the 50

John 15:13

Greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

Or for millions of friends in this case.

If its true what the breathless reporters say these folks have picked a dose of radation.

Libyan Air Force Jets Defect

Two Lybian Air Force jets flown by LAF Colonels, flew low level and defected to Malta with both pilots requesting political asylum. The Middle East and Northern Africa is on fire and the One ans Shillary sit on their hands. Nice to have amateurs in charge.

On War

Poet Ed Sissman wrote many years ago commenting on what happens to a man that missed his chance for war:

Men past forty
Get up nights, look out at city lights
And wonder
Where they made the wrong turn
And why life is so long

I’ve thought about these lines and I’m thankful that I had a chance to serve in the greatest Armed Force on the face of the earth and know that when called we all did our duty.

KC-10

I did not know it but Jan 17 was the 30th anniversary of the KC-10 in the service of the USAF. These are wonderful aircraft, I have been fortunate to deploy in them on a few occasion and they offer the seating in comfort up front for the deploying maintenance crew and space in the back for all of our pallets. Plus they refueled the F-15's enroute to our TDY location. They also have enjoyed over the years the highest fully mission capable rate in the Air Force. By far one of the few things that the Air Staff has gotten right, to bad the didn’t buy more.

South Koren Navy 1 Pirates 0

Hat Tip ARES

Earlier this week South Korean Special Forces from the ROKN destroyer, Choi Young assaulted the highjacked freighter Samho Jewelry in the Arabian Sea. Commandos scrambled up a ladder onto the ship; aboard which Somali pirates were armed with AK assault rifles and anti-tank missiles. 21 hostages had been rescued, eight Somali pirates killed and five assailants captured.
This was the first takedown of a ship at sea that had been captured by the Somali pirates since the Russian navies successful mission last fall , Great job by the RoKS . Check out the second photo, the pirates don’t look too happy

Six F-4F Phantoms of the Luftwaffe's Jagdgeschwader 71,the Red Baron squadron based in Wittmund,Germany will return to Siauliai, Lithuania, on Jan. 5 as part of NATO's Baltic air policing mission. It will be probably be the last deployment for the Phantom as the Luftwaffe continues to concert to the Eurofighter Typhoon.

B-52 In Action

One of my favorite B-52 videos, complete with a little iron rain. At the end you can almost hear the crew say "now it's Miller time".

Chinook Extraction

More insane skills shown by Army pilots extracting a SEAL team. We need to pull out of A-Stan tomorrow and play whack a mole with the drones and Special Operations forces. Check out thr prisoner at 1:28 :)

RAAF Retires F-111

After 37 years of service the last of the Australian Air Force F-111 fleet was retired Dec 3. The F-111 which in my opinion was retired way to early (EF-111 Raven) by the USAF, was an all weather supersonic attack aircraft that was still the fastest thing around on the deck.

Happy Birthday USMC

Today November 10th is the 235th birthday for the United States Marine Corps. During the American Revolution, a committee of the Continental Congress met at Tun Tavern to draft a resolution calling for two battalions of Marines that would be able to fight for independence at sea as well as on shore. The rest is history, and with the approval of the resolution on November 10, 1775, the Continental Marines were officially formed.
To all Marines past, present and future, hoist a pint in celebration.
